Argentina is the fifth-largest wine producer in the world and the largest in Latin America, generating approximately $900 million USD in wine exports annually as of 2025. The country's wine industry is centered in the Cuyo region at the foot of the Andes, where high altitude vineyards (some above 3,000 meters) produce wines of exceptional concentration and complexity. Argentine Malbec has become one of the world's most recognized grape varieties, with wine tourism to Mendoza alone attracting over 3 million visitors per year.

Situated at between 600 and 1,500 meters above sea level on the eastern slopes of the Andes, Mendoza's continental climate with extreme temperature variation between day and night is ideal for producing the bold, fruit-forward Malbecs for which Argentina is internationally famous.

Achaval Ferrer's single-vineyard Malbec from Finca Bella Vista in Lujan de Cuyo has been named among the top 100 wines in the world by Wine Spectator multiple times and regularly receives scores above 95 points. The winery was founded in 1998 by a group of Argentine and Italian partners and pioneered the concept of single-vineyard terroir expression that transformed Argentina's international wine reputation.

The Adrianna Vineyard, owned by Catena Zapata and located at 1,500 meters elevation in the Gualtallary district of Mendoza, is considered one of the greatest wine-producing sites in the world. Wines from this vineyard have received scores of 100 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and viticulturist Laura Catena has published scientific research linking high-altitude vine stress to exceptional wine complexity.

The Calchaqui Valleys in Salta province host some of the world's highest commercial vineyards, with the Colomรฉ Estate's Altura Maxima vineyard planted at 3,111 meters above sea level โ recognized by the Guinness World Records. The Rio Negro Valley in northern Patagonia, located at approximately 39 degrees south latitude, is Argentina's southernmost significant wine region and produces elegant Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines that have attracted international attention. Clos de los Siete is a unique collaborative wine project in the Vista Flores district of Mendoza's Uco Valley, where French wine consultant Michel Rolland assembled seven investors to plant 850 hectares of vineyards following a shared master plan. Lujan de Cuyo, south of the city of Mendoza, was Argentina's first officially designated wine region (Denominacion de Origen Controlada) in 1993 and is home to some of the country's oldest Malbec vines, with several vineyards containing vines more than 100 years old. The region's sandy-loam soils over gravel and clay produce Malbec with an earthy, mineral character distinct from the fresher, higher-altitude styles.

Rutini Wines, founded in 1885 by Italian immigrant Felipe Rutini in Mendoza, is one of Argentina's oldest continuously operating wineries and produces wines across a range of price points from its approachable Trumpeter label to the flagship Felipe Rutini single-vineyard series.
