LA Chargers Copycat Logo (2020)

The LA Chargers' 2017 "LA" logo was a lazy copycat move that confused fans with another LA sports giant. The new wordmark, an "LA" paired with a lightning bolt, was immediately and widely mocked for its resemblance to the Dodgers' famous interlocking logo. The team tried to rescue it with a new color scheme, then abandoned the design within days, and the 2020 rebrand that followed retreated to a refreshed bolt. Compared to the Guardians, which at least created a unique glyph, the Chargers' effort was a copycat failure that alienated a fanbase already dealing with a relocation identity crisis.
