Single-Use Plastic Packaging

Single-use plastic packaging is the ocean's deadliest polluter, with over 11 million tonnes of plastic entering the sea annually. Food wrappers, bottles, and bags account for the majority, breaking into microplastics that infiltrate every level of the marine food chain. This problem dwarfs #2 Agricultural Runoff, which creates dead zones, because plastic's durability ensures centuries of harm. Microplastics have been found in 90% of seabird species and are consumed by humans via seafood.
