Kinderdijk Mills

Kinderdijk boasts 19 beautifully preserved windmills, of which 15 are still operational, draining the Alblasserwaard polder since 1740. The site's windmills can pump 2,000 liters of water per minute each, a capability that outperforms the typical rivalling water management system. Combined, they manage 1,000 hectares of farmland, demonstrating centuries of ingenuity. As a benchmark for wetland engineering, Kinderdijk remains a living testament to human adaptation.
