Ayutthaya Historical Park

Ayutthaya Historical Park delivers the most concentrated collection of Siamese temple ruins anywhere in Thailand, with over 400 surviving structures across 1,000 acres. Founded in 1350, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was once the world's largest city, and its iconic prangs and severed Buddha heads still command awe. Archaeological surveys record 79 major temple sites within the park, including Wat Mahathat with its famous tree-entwined sandstone head. While Sukhothai offers more sprawling serenity, Ayutthaya's density of crumbling stupas and towering chedis, such as the 35-meter-high Phra Si Sanphet, makes it the definitive capital of ruins.
