Las Fallas

Las Fallas burns 700 giant satirical sculptures, called ninots, in a single-night crescendo every March, consuming 200 metric tons of papier-mâché and wax. This five-day Valencia festival, which 1.5 million visitors attend, uses 60% more flammable material than any other European fire event. Compared to Running of the Bulls (San Fermín)'s bull-run risks, Las Fallas boasts zero trampling fatalities in a decade, despite 200 daily fireworks displays that produce 120-decibel blasts—louder than a jet takeoff. The Ninot Indultat, a single saved figure each year, is chosen by public vote, a democratic twist absent in La Tomatina's free-for-all. Its UNESCO Intangible Heritage status, granted in 2016, places it alongside Semana Santa as Spain’s only two recognized festivals.
