Slice

The nostalgia play, and by critical reception the most underrated soda here. The original Slice launched under PepsiCo in 1984 as the replacement for Teem, built around 10% real fruit juice, and by May 1987 it held 3.2% of the US soft-drink market before fading from shelves. Suja Life bought the brand and relaunched it in 2025 as a prebiotic soda carrying 5 grams of prebiotic fiber and, in its own words, “all the ‘biotics’ — pre, pro and post,” though Slice names no specific strain or organism anywhere in its materials. Sugar runs 5 grams or less and varies by flavor: Root Beer is 3, Cherry Cola 4. The Daily Meal ranked the reboot #2, behind only Olipop, calling the classic lemon lime “by far the best citrus soda I tried out of the entire lineup.” It sits this low only because distribution is still rebuilding. The pick here if you want citrus.
