Despite its name, Bryce Canyon is not a canyon but a series of natural amphitheaters carved from the Paunsaugunt Plateau in Utah. It contains the world's largest collection of hoodoos — spire-shaped rock formations in pink, orange, and white — and at 8,000 feet elevation offers some of the darkest night skies in the continental United States. Outperforming #10 in this list by offering 40% more hoodoos than the runner-up, Arches National Park, which has roughly 2,000 arches.
