Between June and September 2025, catastrophic monsoon flooding devastated Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Myanmar, affecting over 20 million people and causing at least 800 deaths. Entire districts were submerged for weeks, destroying crops and infrastructure. This event was 35% more deadly than the average monsoon season of the past decade, with scientists linking the intensified rains to Indian Ocean sea surface temperatures running 1.2°C above historical averages.
