Killed after 3 years. Full refunds issued. Console gaming survives.
Google promised cloud gaming would kill consoles. Stadia launched in 2019 with a library smaller than a GameStop clearance bin and input lag that made competitive play impossible. Google's own first-party studio was shut down 14 months after launch. The service was fully killed in January 2023 — three years after launch. Google refunded all hardware and game purchases, essentially admitting the entire product was a mistake. It joined the Google Graveyard alongside 293 other killed products.
