Varadero stretches 20 kilometres along the Hicacos Peninsula 140 km east of Havana and is Cuba's most celebrated beach resort, hosting over 60 all-inclusive hotels and receiving 1.2 million international tourists annually. Varadero's waters are protected by an offshore reef system, resulting in calm, clear turquoise shallows with temperatures averaging 25-27°C year-round. The peninsula also contains the Varahicacos Ecological Reserve with protected mangroves and coastal dunes.
