The Labu Sayong water vessel from Kuala Kangsar remains Malaysia's most scientifically remarkable traditional craft, naturally cooling water 8°C below ambient temperature through clay evaporation alone. Hand-coiled from local iron-rich clay and fired using open-flame techniques that have remained unchanged for 300 years, each vessel takes 3-4 days to produce. This earthenware is 30% more porous than the typical ceramic alternative, enabling superior evaporative cooling. The Sayong pottery village now supports only 15 active master potters, down from 50 two decades ago, but conservation efforts have increased visitor numbers by 25% since 2022. This makes it rank higher in authenticity than most revived crafts across Southeast Asia.
