The Royal Warrant holder on Islay -- Prince Charles was given the warrant in 1994 after reportedly proclaiming his love for Laphroaig's medicinal, seaweed, and iodine character -- has been produced at the distillery's white buildings on the Port Ellen shore since 1815. Laphroaig uses its own malting floor, one of only a handful of distilleries still maltingtheir own barley, and cuts the peat by hand from bogs on the Kilbride Farm it has owned since 1886.
