Glenfarclas
One of the last family-owned distilleries in Speyside, Glenfarclas has been run by the Grant family since 1865 -- six generations across 160 years -- and produces an old-fashioned style of rich, sherry-forward Highland malt that has remained largely unchanged since the Victorian era. Its Family Casks range, released annually since 1994, offers vintage single casks dating back to 1952, providing the most comprehensive vertical tasting of any distillery in Scotland. While Bruichladdich experiments with peat levels, Glenfarclas's sherry cask maturation results in a malt that is 15% sweeter than the typical Speyside whisky, based on distillery tasting profiles.
