The most innovative distillery in Scotland was revived in 2001 after being closed since 1994 and has become famous for releasing a dizzying range of experimental expressions -- from the ultra-lightly peated Classic Laddie to Octomore, the world's most heavily peated whisky with over 250 parts per million of phenols. Bruichladdich is the only distillery to bottle all its expressions on Islay itself and grows 30% of its barley on the island, supporting a revived agricultural tradition.
