New Zealand's Fiordland National Park covers 12,519 sq km in the South Island's south-west and forms part of the Te Wahipounamu UNESCO World Heritage Area. It contains 14 fiords carved by ancient glaciers, including the world-famous Milford Sound and remote Doubtful Sound. The park receives over 4 metres of rainfall annually, feeding hundreds of waterfalls that cascade down near-vertical walls of rock.
