Canada's oldest national park (1885) covers 6,641 sq km in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta and forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its iconic turquoise glacial lakes β Moraine Lake and Lake Louise β owe their extraordinary colour to suspended rock flour from melting glaciers. The park receives 4 million visitors a year yet retains vast wilderness home to grizzly bears, wolves, and bighorn sheep.
