The first direct visual evidence of a black hole finally confirmed a century-old prediction. The Event Horizon Telescope's 2019 image of the supermassive black hole in galaxy M87 resolved a shadow 2.5 times smaller than Einstein's general relativity predicted, validating theories developed over 100 years earlier.
