Dr Pepper gave every American a free soda to celebrate its release, and that marketing stunt proved more memorable than any track. Compared to other overhyped projects, it alone turned perfectionism into a $13 million flop; St. Anger (#2) at least went double platinum on name recognition, but Chinese Democracy couldn’t sustain even 60 days on the charts.
