Sun and Moon Pagodas
The Sun and Moon Pagodas are twin pagodas on Shan Lake in Guilin, rebuilt in 2001 on the site of Tang dynasty originals. The Sun Pagoda is faced with bronze, has nine stories and stands 41 m (135 ft) tall, which makes it the tallest bronze pagoda in the world. The Moon Pagoda is faced with glazed tile, has seven stories and reaches 35 m (115 ft). The Sun Pagoda is also one of the few pagodas in the world with an elevator. When Shan Lake was drained and excavated, the dig found the original foundations and a stone box of scrolls written by a Tang dynasty emperor.
