Reed Flute Cave

Reed Flute Cave, nicknamed the 'Palace of Natural Arts', is a cave and tourist attraction in Guilin. Inside, multicoloured lights pick out stalactites, stalagmites and formations named after legends, such as the Crystal Palace, Fish Tail Peak and Dragon Pagoda. Look for the more than 70 ink inscriptions of poems and travelogues on the walls; the oldest dates to 792 AD, in the Tang dynasty. The cave is named after the reeds outside, which can be made into flutes, and it was rediscovered in the 1940s by refugees fleeing Japanese troops.
