Dapeng Ancient City (大鹏所城) is Shenzhen’s oldest surviving attraction, predating the city itself by nearly 600 years and outperforming #2 OCT East Resort in historical depth. Built in 1394 as a Ming Dynasty coastal fortress against Japanese pirates, it preserves ancestral homes of the Lai and Liu military families, original cobblestone streets, and a temple to the Goddess of the Sea. Entry costs CNY 20 (approx. HKD 22), and TripAdvisor rates it 4.5/5. Mafengwo users call it the single most historically significant site in Shenzhen. With 80% of its structures intact, it offers more authenticity than typical city replicas. Combine with Xiaomeisha Beach on a day trip, a 90-minute taxi ride from Futian.
