Kyoto Railway Museum

The Kyoto Railway Museum opened in 2016 and is Japan's largest railway museum, housing 53 full-size historic locomotives and carriages including original Shinkansen bullet trains and a 200-metre operating steam railway loop (200 JPY ride). Adult entry is 1,200 JPY and children's tickets 500 JPY (approx. 60-25 HKD), making it one of the best-value family attractions in Kyoto. The hands-on driving simulators rated for children aged 6+ are consistently described as the highlight by TripAdvisor reviewers, and the Umekoji Park outside the museum entrance is an excellent free picnic spot. The museum is a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station and makes an excellent half-day addition to any Kyoto itinerary.
