Shamian Island (沙面岛)
Shamian Island is a 0.3 km² former colonial concession in Liwan District, with over 150 preserved European-style consulates and villas from the 1860s-1940s lining tree-shaded boulevards. It is one of the most photogenic and stroller-friendly areas in China, offering pedestrianised streets, independent cafes, and craft boutiques. Mafengwo users rate it 4.7/5, calling it "the most peaceful and family-friendly neighbourhood in Guangzhou." Entry is free, and the island is 15 minutes by Metro from Guangzhou South station, ideal for couples and families with young children.
