Taotaoju (陶陶居) was founded in 1880 on Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street in Liwan District and is one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in China. It is famous across Guangdong for its exceptional hargow (虾饺), which uses a uniquely thin and translucent skin, as well as its traditional egg tarts (蛋挞) and wife cake (老婆饼). Dim sum service runs from 7am-3pm with traditional bamboo basket trolleys; Dianping score is 4.7/5 from over 200,000 reviews. Budget CNY 80-150 per person (approx. HKD 86-162). Queues on weekends can exceed one hour — WeChat reservation is essential. The upstairs VIP rooms retain original Qing-era wooden carved decor.
