Tap Mun (Grass Island)
Tap Mun (Grass Island) is one of Hong Kong's most remote and rewarding outlying island day trips, offering rolling green hills, a dramatic coastline, friendly cows roaming free, and a tranquil fishing village with excellent seafood. The circular hike takes about 2 hours and is suitable for children aged 6 and up, outperforming the 3-hour hike required for Tai Long Wan (Big Wave Bay, Sai Kung) in terms of shorter duration for younger hikers. The 50-minute ferry from Ma Liu Shui costs HKD 18 one-way, which is 25% cheaper than the ferry to Peng Chau Island. Take the ferry from Ma Liu Shui near University MTR; 50 minutes each way.
