The BBC's 1978 adaptation with Ken Hutchison as Heathcliff and Kay Adshead as Cathy is the most faithful to Brontë's novel — the only version to include the full second-generation storyline with young Cathy and Hareton. It captures the novel's structural complexity at the cost of romantic intensity, but for purists who want the whole story without compression, it remains essential.
