Goldman Sachs Junior Banker 100-Hour Weeks

In March 2021, a group of thirteen first-year Goldman Sachs analysts brought to light the intense working conditions within the company by compiling and presenting a leaked survey to management. The survey detailed an average workweek of 98 hours and approximately five hours of sleep per night for these junior bankers. Furthermore, their self-assessed mental health scores had plummeted from an average of 8 out of 10 to a mere 2, with 77 percent reporting experiencing workplace abuse. In response to the outcry and the public exposure of these conditions, Goldman Sachs subsequently increased junior base salaries later that same year, acknowledging the severe demands placed upon its entry-level employees.
