Joe Theismann's Leg Break — Monday Night Football (1985)

Joe Theismann's leg break remains the most iconic compound fracture in NFL history. During a Monday Night Football game in 1985, Lawrence Taylor sacked Theismann with such force that his tibia and fibula snapped audibly on live national television. Witnesses report the bone protruded through the skin, and Taylor immediately waved frantically for medical help, visibly horrified by the result. Theismann never played another down, ending a 12-year career with 2,044 completions.
