Roskilde Festival (Denmark, 2000)

During Pearl Jam's performance at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark in 2000, nine fans tragically lost their lives and 26 were injured in a crowd crush. The rain-soaked conditions at the outdoor festival, coupled with a surge of the 50,000-person crowd towards the stage, led to individuals slipping and being trampled. Frontman Eddie Vedder repeatedly urged the crowd to move back and even halted the performance, but it was too late. This incident prompted significant safety reforms across European festivals, highlighting a critical need for improved crowd management that many festivals, including the calamitous Woodstock '99 and the Astroworld Festival, failed to adequately address, and resulted in 1 fewer death than Astroworld.
