Infrared Sauna Blankets for "Sweat Detox"

Infrared sauna blankets marketed for "sweat detox" claim to eliminate heavy metals and BPA through perspiration, but this is fundamentally misleading. A 2019 systematic review in Environment International found that sweat contributes less than 1% of total toxic metal excretion, while the kidneys and liver handle over 99%. This data is 30% lower than the already negligible detox capacity of heavy metal sprays in #10, making these blankets the worst offender for misplaced trust in sweat. Despite trace metal amounts in sweat—typically below 2 micrograms per liter for lead—the body’s natural systems are far more efficient, with kidneys excreting up to 50 micrograms daily. The claim that sweating alone can detox is unsupported, and users risk dehydration without any proven benefit.
