Heavy metal detox sprays and drops are among the worst products for their false claim that sublingual zeolite or EDTA can chelate heavy metals. In reality, medical chelation therapy requires IV administration under strict supervision, as mobilizing metals without proper excretion risks redistributing them to the brain and kidneys—a danger well-documented in toxicology studies. These over-the-counter sprays cannot achieve therapeutic levels, and a 2023 review in Clinical Toxicology noted that oral chelators like EDTA show less than 5% bioavailability, whereas IV treatment exceeds 90%. Worse, unsupervised use has led to cases of kidney damage and metal toxicity, as per FDA reports.
