Kaziranga National Park hosts two-thirds of the world's great one-horned rhinoceroses, with a population of 2,613 individuals recorded in 2024 across its 430 sq km core area. Its rhino density of 6.1 per sq km nearly triples the 2.1 per sq km rate at Manas National Park (#4), and the park supports 1,800 elephants within its floodplains. Anti-poaching efforts are unmatched, achieving a 95% survival rate for rhinos since 2020, which is 25% higher than the national average. A 2025 habitat study revealed a 12% expansion of grassland cover, boosting prey availability for its nine resident tiger reserves.
