Unity Technologies
Unity is the engine behind a large share of mobile games, with revenue of about $2.2 billion in 2023 split between editor subscriptions and its advertising business. Its 2023 attempt to introduce a per-install “Runtime Fee” triggered a developer revolt, cost CEO John Riccitiello his job, and was cancelled outright in 2024.
