Malaysia Airlines Flight 370
239 people. Boeing 777. $200M search. 3 debris pieces found. Plane still missing.
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished on March 8, 2014, with 239 people aboard, making it the greatest aviation mystery of the modern era. Despite a search costing over $200 million and covering some 46,000 square miles of Indian Ocean floor, only a handful of debris fragments have ever been recovered. The final satellite handshake data narrowed the crash zone, but no main wreckage has been located. In 2024, Ocean Infinity proposed a new search using autonomous underwater vehicles, targeting a 5,000-square-mile area. The plane, weighing some 600,000 pounds at takeoff, disappeared from both radar and satellite tracking, defying investigators' expectations.
