Aspendos Theatre is the best-preserved Roman theatre in the world, still hosting 15,000 spectators annually for opera and ballet performances. Its 96-meter-wide auditorium retains perfect acoustics: a whisper on stage can be heard in the back row, 30 meters away. Outperforming #1 Ephesus in structural integrity, 95% of its original marble and stonework remains intact, untouched by major restoration. Built in 155 AD under Emperor Marcus Aurelius, its stage wall—decorated with 20 columns, 10 niches, and 3 doorways—rises to a height of 18 meters. Compared to the crumbling ruins of Ani, Aspendos delivers a fully functional ancient venue at a ticket price of €10, cheaper than most other grade-A sites.
