Aphrodisias

Aphrodisias boasts the best-preserved stadium in the Mediterranean, seating 30,000 spectators—a feat unmatched among ancient venues. Excavations have uncovered over 100 marble sculptures, including a rare portrait of the philosopher Apollonius of Tyana. The Temple of Aphrodite, though partly reconstructed, retains 14 original columns, a testament to its Roman-era craftsmanship. With 95% of the city still buried, ongoing digs reveal new artifacts yearly, making it a living archive of ancient Anatolian culture. Its stadium is 20% larger than any other surviving example in Turkey, solidifying its archaeological significance.
