Pamukkale's blinding white travertine terraces are a natural masterpiece, sculpted by mineral-rich thermal waters over centuries. The adjacent ancient city of Hierapolis, founded in the 3rd century BC, includes a Roman theater seating 15,000 spectators. It became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988. Early morning visits avoid crowds. While Cappadocia's fairy chimneys are rock, Pamukkale's terraces are living calcium deposits, a rare distinction among Turkey's attractions.
