Chris Wiggs created the first Polly Pocket in 1983 by placing a tiny doll inside a makeup compact for his daughter, launching Bluebird Toys' 1989-1998 series that Mattel later ruined by enlarging the figures. Original Bluebird compacts in good condition sell for $50-300, but rare variants like the 1992 Fairy Wishing World or Jewel Case can hit $500-$1,500 — a 40% premium over similar compacts of the era. The tiny scale, with dolls under one inch, was the whole point, and Mattel's oversized redesign caused collector prices to spike 300% for original examples. These compacts prove that size truly doesn't matter in value.
