Yang Chuan-kwang, the 'Iron Man of Asia,' became the first Asian to win an Olympic decathlon medal with silver at the 1960 Rome Games, scoring 8,334 points—just 58 shy of gold. His score outperformed the average decathlon champion over the prior three Olympics by 6%, and his 100-meter time of 10.7 seconds was faster than the average Olympic sprinter that year.
