Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival

The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival delivers the world’s most breathtaking lantern release, with over 200,000 paper lanterns illuminating the night sky above the mountain town of Pingxi. This event, held annually on the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, attracts more than 100,000 visitors. Each lantern carries handwritten wishes, creating a collective hope that rivals the scale of Yanshui Beehive Fireworks's airborne rockets, but with a serene, family-friendly atmosphere. The tradition dates back to the Qing Dynasty, when lanterns were used as distress signals, and today it offers participants a personal, floating moment.
