Three locking diffs. Military origin. Climbs 100% grades. Most never leave LA.
Originally designed in 1979 for the Austrian military, the G-Class still uses three locking differentials — front, center, and rear — a feature no other production SUV offers. Lock all three and it will climb a 100% grade. The current G 550 makes 416 horsepower from a twin-turbo 4.0L V8. Yes, most G-Wagons never leave Beverly Hills, but the Schockl mountain test protocol ensures every single one could cross the Rubicon Trail if it had to.
