Pompeii
Buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii is the largest archaeological site in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, drawing 2.5 million visitors each year. The remarkably preserved streets, frescoed villas, bakeries, and theatres offer an unparalleled window into daily Roman life. Ongoing excavations continue to reveal new discoveries beneath the volcanic ash.
