Five UNESCO-listed fishing villages -- Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore -- cling to the Ligurian cliffs above the Italian Riviera, designated a World Heritage Site in 1997. A 12 km hiking trail known as the Sentiero Azzurro connects the villages through terraced vineyards and sweeping sea views. The colourful stacked houses have made Cinque Terre one of Italy's most Instagrammed destinations.
