It was designated Sieur de Monts National Monument on July 8, 1916, became Lafayette National Park on February 26, 1919, and was renamed Acadia National Park on January 19, 1929. About 57 miles of carriage roads were financed by John D. Rockefeller Jr., with 45 miles still maintained in the park.
