Uffizi Gallery
Established in 1581 by Grand Duke Francesco I de' Medici, the Uffizi Gallery (Gallerie degli Uffizi) occupies a prominent Renaissance building designed by Giorgio Vasari in 1560 along the Arno River in Florence, Italy. Originally commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici to house magistrates' offices (uffizi), the upper floors were converted to display the Medici family's private art collections.
