Plitvice Waterfalls, Croatia

Plitvice Waterfalls weaves sixteen terraced lakes into Croatia's UNESCO-protected forest, connected by over 90 cascades that shift annually due to living travertine barriers growing 1-3 centimetres per year. This natural sculpting is slower than the average waterfall erosion rate, yet produces a dynamic landscape seen nowhere else in Europe. The largest cascade, Veliki Slap, drops 70 metres across multiple steps, making it 30% taller than the runner-up in the park system.
