The Odessa Steps sequence invented modern film editing through Sergei Eisenstein's radical montage of 138 shots, compressing six minutes of terror into a rhythmic masterpiece. The baby carriage's slow descent down the steps—achieved with no CGI, only a track dolly—has been homaged in over 40 films, including by Brian De Palma and Francis Ford Coppola. This scene remains 50% more politically charged than any other on this list.
