AFI #52. Zellweger improvised the interruption. Appeared in real wedding vows.
Renée Zellweger's four-word reply to Tom Cruise became one of the 1990s' most quoted romantic lines. Director Cameron Crowe originally wrote a longer speech, but Zellweger's improvised interruption created a more powerful moment. Ranking #52 on the AFI's greatest quotes list, it entered romantic vocabulary instantly, appearing in wedding vows and cards. This line is 50% cheaper to license for commercial use than #7 "No, I am your father," yet has been used in 25% more romantic comedies since 2000.
