Invented in 1898 by American mining engineer Jennings Cox near Santiago de Cuba, the Daiquiri distills tropical drinking to its purest form: white rum, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup. Ernest Hemingway also famously loved it ("frozen, without sugar"), and F. Kennedy cited it as a favorite. Its elegant minimalism has inspired countless riffs from strawberry blended versions to complex sours.
